1. Who we are
This website (ramtzul.com.gt) is operated by Ram Tzul, a private nature reserve, eco-hotel and restaurant located at Km 158, Ruta a las Verapaces, Purulhá, Baja Verapaz, Guatemala. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Ram Tzul.
For any privacy matter, write to us at [email protected]. This policy applies to all versions of the site (Spanish, English, German and French).
2. What data we process and why
- Booking form: name, phone or WhatsApp number, email address, dates, number of guests, chosen module and comments. We use them to answer your request, check availability, tell you the rate and manage your booking.
- Travel trade form: name, company, type of business, country, email, phone and message. We use them to answer your inquiry (rates, Fam Trips, groups).
- Newsletter: your email address and whether you are a traveler or an agency. We use them to send you Ram Tzul news only if you ask for it; you can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Chat assistant: the messages you type. While the assistant is not connected to an external service, it works with quick answers inside your browser and your messages are not sent to any server. If we later connect it to an automated assistant, we will say so here and in the chat itself.
- Technical data: as on any website, the server records the IP address, date and time, the page requested and the browser type. We use them only for the security and proper operation of the site, not to build profiles.
3. How your data travels
The forms on this site do not store your information in our own database. When you submit them, we open WhatsApp (bookings) or your email app (travel trade and newsletter) with the message already written, and you decide whether to send it. From that moment, your data is also processed by the service you choose (for example, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, or your email provider) under its own policy.
If we later activate an online system for receiving requests, your data will reach our servers directly, and we will update this policy before doing so.
4. Cookies and storage in your browser
We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. The site uses only your browser’s session storage to remember that you have already seen the welcome animation and to give the chat conversation a temporary, anonymous identifier. That information is deleted when you close the tab and does not leave your device.
5. Third-party services
- Google Maps: the “Plan your visit” page shows an embedded map. When it loads, Google may receive your IP address and use cookies, as described in Google’s privacy policy.
- WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook: these are links to external services. When you open them you leave our site and each platform’s policies apply.
- Fonts and scripts: they are hosted on our own server and are not loaded from third-party networks.
- Web hosting: the site is hosted with a server provider that processes the technical logs described above on our behalf.
6. Who we share your data with
We do not sell or transfer your personal data. We only share it with providers that help us run the site and handle your request (web hosting, messaging and email) and when required to do so by a competent authority under applicable law. Some of these providers may process data outside Guatemala; in that case we require them to do so with appropriate safeguards.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which we received it (answering your request, managing your booking or sending you news) and for as long as the law requires us to keep it, for example for accounting obligations. After that we delete or anonymize it.
8. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its processing, object to it, receive it in a reusable format (portability) or withdraw your consent, without affecting the lawfulness of any processing carried out before withdrawal. Write to us at [email protected] describing your request; we will reply within a reasonable time and in any case within one month.
We process your data in accordance with applicable Guatemalan law and, where applicable, with rules such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you live in the European Union or the European Economic Area and believe we have not properly addressed your rights, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection (supervisory) authority.
9. Security
We protect the site with an encrypted connection (HTTPS), security headers and restricted access to information. No system is completely secure, so we do not ask for or process credit or debit card details on this site. Please do not send them through the forms or the chat.
10. Minors
This site is not directed at children under 16. Bookings are made by adults; if you include children’s details as guests, please provide only the information needed to accommodate them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the site or the law. We will publish the current version on this page with its update date. Versions in other languages are courtesy translations; in case of any discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.
